ICFAI University, Hyderabad conducts The Sixth Convocation

Delivering the convocation address, the Chief Guest Mr S M Datta, Former Chairman, Hindustan Unilever Limited, highlighted the importance of various qualities to be acquired and inculcated by managers to be successful in a dynamic environment. He advised the students on the importance of strategies to overcome major obstacles and coping with limitations during their career. He cited examples from the Mahabharata and Kautilya’s Arthashastra to stress the importance of lessons from literature and thinkers closer home, which can be used for developing strategies to ensure the long term survival and growth of a company.  Highlighting that learning is a continuous process he said, “ICFAI University has provided a great technology infrastructure, and learning environment and this learning will be a great asset which you will carry with you into your future life.” He urged the students to operate within the framework of the society, conforming with the regulations and showing concern for the environment.

Prof J. Mahender Reddy, Vice Chancellor presented a report on the progress made by the University during the year 2015-16. He informed that during the year the faculty members of the University published 176 papers in professional journals of repute of which 10 were in A*/A Journals listed in Australian Business Deans Council Journal Quality list and 92 in Scopus listed journals. He also highlighted the achievements of various departments and students in the University.

Dr C Rangarajan, Chancellor of the University, presided over the function. Delivering his address, he asked the students to be bold and innovative and apply the knowledge they had gained to solve the problems that confront the nation. He said the students have the opportunity to shape the future of the country. Calling for radical changes in higher education, he said, “The agricultural, industrial and scientific growth of this country depends upon creating a corps of well trained professionals in these areas and this can happen only with good quality higher education.  We need not belittle what we have achieved.  However, there is an inescapable need to strengthen higher education in terms of quality and effectiveness.”

Graduating Students:

During the convocation 1,438 students including 516 girls received their degrees. Six students were awarded their PhD degrees and 1,105 MBA degrees. In the other streams  31 BBA-LLB (Hons), 154 B Tech  and 142 BBA degrees were awarded.

Gold and Silver Medals – MBA Stream:

Medals were awarded to students for academic excellence and all round excellence. Niman Sood    received the gold medal for academic excellence in the MBA program and also the ‘Saurabh Sharma Memorial Gold Medal’ for being the First Rank holder in the Marketing stream of the MBA program. Melvin Sewak received the silver medal for academic excellence and the ‘Faiyaz Ahmed Khan Memorial Gold Medal’ as the First Rank holder in the Finance stream of the MBA program.

Gold and Silver Medals – BBA, BBA-LLB (Hons.) and B.Tech  Streams:

Spandan Ghosh and Sohel Khatri received the gold medal and silver medal respectively for academic excellence in the BBA program while Deepanjan Mal and Odugu Sai Sahiti received the gold medal and silver medal respectively for academic excellence in the B.Tech. program.  In the BBA-LLB (Hons) program the gold and silver medals for academic excellence were awarded to Manoj Reddy Keshi Reddy and Annu Bharadwaj respectively.

N J Yasaswy-Apollo Hospital Best Student Award’:

Vineet Saini received Gold medal and ‘N J Yasaswy-Apollo Hospital Best Student Award’ for allround excellence in the B.Tech Program. In the same program Kedia Atish was awarded Silver medal for allround excellence.

Best Teacher Award:

Prof Satish Kumar won ‘NJ Yasaswy – Apollo Hospitals Best Teacher Award’ for Overall Excellence.
